UPDATE: October 2025

Dear Family and Friends

As Sarah’s birthday approaches, our family would like to take this opportunity to thank all of you for your help and support in establishing the Sarah L Proctor Educational Endowment at the 4-H Children’s Garden. To date, Sarah’s Endowment Fund has reached over $300,000 to help fund the permanent educator position at the Garden. And Sarah’s legacy continues to grow!

We wanted to share with you the impact the endowment has had thus far and will continue in perpetuity thanks to your generosity in Sarah’s name.

Impact This Year

• Over 10,000 children from 200 schools in Michigan participated in field trips

• 500 MSU students from the Department of Education came for field trips to the garden

• One new educational project involved groups of middle schoolers attending 3-part workshops to learn about plant growth and light meters

• The summer camps focused on Art in Nature, with students creating art from flowers, and learning to paint with soil

• The Gardens have partnered with the East Lansing Public Library for a Stories in the Garden Program

Thank You

Additionally, we want to thank all of you for sharing your own visits to the Gardens this past summer. It means a lot to our family to hear about them.

On our last trip, the Gardens were full of vibrant color, bustling with the activity of a field trip in progress. Sarah’s dream of hands-on learning has continued to flourish. We hope she would have been happy to see the benefit her Endowment provides for the children she so loved teaching.

We recommend anybody in the area or traveling through East Lansing to stop by for a minute.

Thank you all,

The Proctor Family
